Crime is an exceptionally wide phenomenon and that is why it is subjected to numer-ous methods of systematization. The article concentrates on the disclosed volume of crime in Poland between 1944 and 1956. The basis is composed of own data accumulated by the Polish communist-era police (the official name of the police in Poland between 1944 and 1990 was Milicja Obywatelska), the Special Committee to Combat Economic Misuse and Sabotage as well as by public security organizations. In accordance with these institutions’ characteristics, crime belonging to their purview was classified into the following groups of offences: criminal, economic and political. Basic dangers which were connected with them are presented in a statistical format in the form of 18 tables.
