This study is devoted to the personality of Nikolai Alexandrovich Menshutkin (1842—1907), a Russian chemist and professor at the Imperial St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute. The materials for this work are biographical studies about his personality; the methodological basis consists of a set of scientific methods, in particular, historiographical, systemic, and others. Nikolai Alexandrovich Menshutkin became one of the outstanding Russian chemists, the founder of analytical and kinetic chemistry and dynamic methods for determining chemical reactions, and the discoverer of some chemical reactions that were named after him. He was one of the founders of the Russian Chemical Society and a widely recognized expert in experimental chemistry, conducting and personally describing experiments until the end of his life. Menshutkin also made a significant contribution to educational activities, systematizing chemical knowledge and publishing textbooks on analytical and organic chemistry, which went through dozens of editions over several decades.
