The Portrait Gallery of the Museum of the History of the American Knights Templar: Collection Formation, Cataloging, and Historical Reconstruction

The article examines the history of the formation, principles of cataloging, and features of historical reconstruction of the Portrait Gallery of the Museum of the History of the American Knights Templar at Cherkas Global University. The purpose of the study is to examine the process of creating a specialized museum collection in 2024—2026 and determine its significance for the preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of the American Templar movement. The materials for the study were six painted portraits created by the artist Lyudmila N. Bogutskaya, historical photographs and images, museum objects, as well as scientific publications. The study used historical-descriptive and comparative-historical methods, as well as methods of museum attribution and cataloging. As a result, it was established that the formation of the Portrait Gallery was carried out in close connection with scientific projects and the development of museum collections. In creating the portraits, methods of historical reconstruction were applied using surviving images, authentic examples of Templar uniforms and regalia. The cataloging system of the collection was examined. Which received the status of an independent museum collection under number 7 on September 16, 2026. Particular attention is paid to the documentation of the works, establishing their provenance and connections with other museum exhibits. It is shown that the created gallery simultaneously performs scientific, memorial, and exhibition functions. It is concluded that the formation of the Portrait Gallery represents an example of a comprehensive approach to the study and preservation of the historical memory of the American Knights Templar. The results obtained can be used in organizing similar specialized museum collections and developing principles for their scientific cataloging.
