What did the communist authorities try to hide from the people? (from the practice of classifying archival documents in the era of totalitarianism)

The  practice  of  secreting  of  the  archival  documents  by  the  Soviet  power  and  the  motives  of  this  process  are  analyzed  in  general.  The  example  of  information  contained in the consolidated multivolume «Register of Declassifi ed Archival Funds of  Ukraine»  (2009—2013)  shows  what  documented  manifestations  of  everyday  life  of Soviet citizens were translated into the category of non-disclosable information. The  destructive  infl  uence  of  the  practice  of  total  secrecy  of  archival  documents  on  the state of historical science and other sciences was emphasized, which led to the deformation of public consciousness.
