“The Most Popular Pistol in the USA”: to the 45th Anniversary of the Revolutionary Development of the Austrian Engineer Gaston Glock

This article provides a brief history of the creation and phenomenal market success of Glock pistols, the 45th anniversary of whose first prototype is celebrated in 2026. The author examines the historical and biographical details of the life of Gaston Glock and his pistols: from the production of household equipment for the Austrian army to the media hysteria surrounding the «invisible pistol» and the tragic FBI shootout of 1986. The work utilizes photographic materials from open internet sources. The research methodology is based on general scientific methods (analysis, synthesis, content analysis) and specialized historical methods (historical-genetic, historical-typological, narrative). Based on the conducted research, it can be concluded that Glock's success is explained by a unique combination of engineering innovations, an aggressive trade-in marketing strategy, and a favorable confluence of historical circumstances that allowed the Austrian engineer to conquer the world's most competitive arms market.
